After my second child, I noticed my hair falling out in the shower; it was even coming out in clumps. Having always been told I had beautiful thick hair, it was horrifying to see it circling the drain. I wore my hair back for months until my friend told me there are several hair products that support the appearance of longer, denser, thicker, and healthier hair.
After doing some research, I stumbled upon Vegamour and Nutrafol. Both brands offer plant-based, non-toxic products that help combat thinning hair. I tried both to see which of the products actually delivered results.
Here are my thoughts:
Key Similarities
- Both aim to restore hair’s healthy appearance
- Both have formulas from naturally derived, clinically-tested ingredients
- Both should be used daily to achieve best results
Key Differences
- Vegamour is most known for their GRO hair serum – Nutrafol is most known for their supplements in the form of capsules
- Vegamour has a rewards program with exclusive savings – Nutrafol has a quiz that helps you select the right product
- Vegamour GRO hair serum shows results after 1-3 months – Nutrafol capsules show results after 3-6 months
Vegamour Experience
Vegamour offers everything from hair serums and shampoos to conditioners and even supplements. What piqued my interest was that their products are 100% vegan, made without hormones or carcinogens, but they still have clinical studies that show real results – not to mention their many 5-star reviews.
I decided to try their best selling GRO hair serum. Its key ingredients are:
- Mung bean – contains hair enriching minerals
- Curcumin – directly scavenges hair-damaging free-radicals
- Red clover – contains hair-boosting isoflavones that exhibit antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties
I immediately noticed the hair serum’s pleasant smell – a lovely light and fresh scent that I fell in love with right away. The application was super easy, thanks to the dropper. I just filled it, evenly applied the product directly to my scalp, then massaged it carefully with my fingertips. I was even able to style my hair as usual directly since it’s a leave-in product – no rinse required!
Vegamour recommends using the serum daily to achieve best results – so that’s what I did! However, I was a little skeptical since I didn’t notice anything different after using it for about 4 weeks. I’m not the most patient person, so it was challenging to stick with, but I read all the reviews and knew it would take a little bit of time.
Then suddenly, after 2 months, I started seeing results. I couldn’t believe that their serum actually worked! My other mom-friends kept telling me how healthy my hair looked and begging for my hair care secrets. It felt denser and thicker, and I finally was able to wear it down again without feeling self conscious.
Nutrafol Experience
Nutrafol focuses on supplements in capsule form that can help women and men tackle hair loss. I’m not the biggest fan of supplements, but I decided to give their capsules a try because of their positive 5-star reviews and triple-verified product research.
After taking their quiz to help me find the right product, I ordered Nutrafol Women – their supplement with over 20 ingredients. Thinking they would be packed with ingredients that would directly target my hair, I was a little disappointed to find that the first two ingredients are Ashwagandha and collagen. Ashwagandha is a stress-decreasing adaptogen which I knew wasn’t the cause of my hair loss, and the benefits of improving collagen aren’t even proven yet…
Nevertheless, I took the pills every morning after breakfast. Swallowing the pills wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but I wished I had to take only one pill – not four.
With Nutrafol, I had to be even more patient. It took over 4 months to notice a difference in my hair, and I experienced some side effects in the beginning. My stomach was pretty upset some days and needed some time to adjust to the new product.
Even though Nutrafol ended up working, I felt like I was just taking vitamins and supplements rather than actually helping my hair. Plus, $88 a month is pricey compared to other supplements or Vegamour’s GRO serum which is only $64 (and with a subscription just $52 + free shipping).
Final Thoughts
Nutrafol wasn’t bad and I did see some results, but having to take four capsules a day didn’t make me feel comfortable. Furthermore, it took way longer to see results, and $88 a month is just too pricey for me.
Vegamour was the clear winner. In fact, the serum is just the beginning for me! Vegamour has a whole line of GRO products from everything like dry shampoo (which I always need more of), shampoo and conditioner, and even delicious little gummies. Their products are high-quality, vegan, and made without toxins. Plus, they’re affordable – especially when subscribing. After I run through their GRO line, I can’t wait to try out their lash and brow products!
If you’re dealing with thinning hair, I can’t recommend Vegamour enough. Their products are absolutely safe-to-use and deliver visible results. All you have to do is be patient and consistent, and you’ll have your healthy hair back in no time!
