This new year, I’m going on a total health-kick: no sugar, new gym membership, a cleaner apartment, and even a trip to the dreaded dentist. I was off to a great start after Christmas (ahead of schedule!), but just as I was getting my running shoes from the closet, the same closet where we keep our cat’s litter box, I got a whiff of some serious dust and an unpleasant odor. I realized I wasn’t just getting lazy with my own health, but with my cat’s health, too. That’s why I treated both my cat and myself to a subscription to PrettyLitter, which delivers mess and odor-free litter right to your door each month. I was fully prepared for a total New Year’s resolution transformation—for my cat, at least. Here’s how it went.
PrettyLitter‘s subscription sends enough litter to last you and your cat a full month, without all those trips to the pet store to replenish. Since I have one cat, I got a single four lb. bag of litter, which was much lighter than the 20lb stuff I’m used to lugging up to my 4th floor apartment (I like to keep my workouts for the gym, thank you). The bag even fit nice and snug in our closet, right by our cleaning supplies and my new yoga mat.
You might be thinking it’s not possible that such a small bag could last a month—I was unsure too. But PrettyLitter‘s formula is unlike any I’ve seen – unlike clumping litter, the white crystal formula absorbs moisture which later evaporates, so you just scoop the poop and there’s no need to replenish the litter throughout the month! Also, it masks odors perfectly. Even after my cat did his “business,” there was still no odor at all. It’s a lot easier to focus on all the things I love about my cat when I’m not constantly dealing with the unpleasantness of his….business. While it was nice to cross “get better litter” off my to-do list, it was even nicer to notice that my cat’s new litter had zero smell.
What really set PrettyLitter apart from any other brands I’ve seen, is that it actually helps you keep an eye on your cat’s health. It changes color when it detects that something might be off, like a potential kidney or urinary tract infection, so you can get to a vet weeks before you might have noticed symptoms on your own. Luckily so far all looks good, but knowing that I can stay on top of potential illness before it becomes a serious problem has been a huge relief.
Since I no longer have to worry about buying heavy bags of litter, cleaning out my cat’s box several times a month, or trying to mask any unpleasant apartment smells, I have time to concentrate on my own New Year’s goals. The jury’s still out on whether or not I’m meeting my health resolutions—sugar is very, very hard to give up—but thanks to PrettyLitter, at least I’ll be the best pet mom I can be in the New Year.
