Tara Foley, founder and CEO of clean beauty retailer, Follain, is leading the clean beauty movement. Today, she is the proud mom of a rambunctious two-year-old and newborn baby. She’s a modern day superwoman who cares about the products she sells and the women she’s selling them to.
Tara’s path towards industry disruption started a decade ago when she realized the beauty products she had come to rely on were more toxic to her skin and harmful to her health than she realized. As part of a personal wellness journey, Tara began looking at the ingredients in her makeup, hair, and bath products, and discovered a slew of dangerous chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, and more.
After doing more research, Tara discovered that the EU has banned over 1,500 chemicals in beauty products, while the US has only prohibited 30 since 1938. There was limited information on the safety of ingredients and the government was not proactively monitoring the situation, so if a woman wanted to buy safe products, she’d have to do extensive research on her own. Someone needed to step in and set the standard for clean beauty. So Tara took a leap, quit her corporate job and founded Follain. Her mission was to work closely with scientists and MDs to research and identify unsafe ingredients, and then find products that were both safe AND effective.
